Section Information for Spring 2017
This course provides an introduction to qualitative research methods in sociology for graduate students. Because an understanding of qualitative research is best gained through experience, this course emphasizes a “learning by doing” approach and is run as a practicum. Students will learn the techniques for collecting, analyzing and writing-up qualitative research data through their own research projects. This course considers central methodological issues relevant to doing qualitative research in academic and applied settings and explore critical ethical and political questions that arise within qualitative research practice.
