Section Information for Spring 2018

The Second World War was the greatest calamity in human history. America’s participation in the massive global conflict changed the nation in countless ways: the mobilization effort affected the nation’s economy and politics, recast its social fabric, and changed the relationship between the people and their government. The memory of the war continues to influence the ways that Americans choose to remember critical parts of the twentieth century. This course, the capstone for the history major, gives students an opportunity to delve deeply into the American experience in the Second World War by creating their own research project based on primary sources. Over the course of the semester, students will learn the skills of historical analysis, identify an original research question, collect and examine sources, and produce a long essay on some facet of the American experience during World War II.
