Interdisciplinary Studies Prepares Students for Success

Mr. Guilbert Brown received a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from George Mason University earlier this year, writing his thesis on the topic of increasing public education access and quality at reduced cost.  His dedication and commitment afforded him a Fulbright scholarship and a job promotion.  He is currently Assistant Vice President for Planning and Budgeting and Chief Budget Officer for George Mason University.  Mr. Brown has been with Mason since 2006 and previously served as the chief budget officer for Rice University, Georgetown University and Oregon State University.

During a higher education administration career, spanning three decades, Mr. Brown has made presentations to the National Association of College & University Business Officers (NACUBO) including five years as a professional development faculty member for NACUBO, conducted workshops for the Society for College & University Planning (SCUP), American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) and made presentations to the Association for Institutional Research (AIR).

He is also co-author of the book SEM and Institutional Success: Integrating Enrollment, Finance and Student Access (AACRAO Publishing, 2008) and contributed a chapter on financial aid to another AACRAO book published this fall: Strategic Enrollment Management: Transforming Higher Education.

His advice to prospective and current Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies students is to "be diligent."
