Dr. Al Fuertes, Associate Professor, has just returned from Yogyakarta, Indonesia facilitating an International Leadership Workshop on Gender Justice with church and religious leaders from all over the world. The workshop, which was sponsored by the United Evangelical Mission (UEM) based in Germany, was filled with active and creative listening amidst difficult conversations and deeply emotional and theological issues, reflective and critical thinking, open communication, and a joint and collaborative vision of an inclusive, open, affirming, and welcoming church/faith community. Participants dared to finally break open cycles of silence and deep wells of cultural taboos to come up with a collective statement on gender justice as a call to action. The event was held on September 22-29, 2019.
