Compensation

The Interdisciplinary Studies program relies heavily on the generosity of faculty across the University to support our students as they make progress on their degrees.

To encourage faculty to chair MAIS committees, some committee chairs are eligible for a $500 honorarium upon conferral of the student's degree. Previous policy was to pay all committee chairs, without exception. Starting in 2017-18, there are some limitations on who can receive these payments. Please review the policy and contact Interdisciplinary Studies if you have questions or concerns.

Second and third members of a student's committee are ineligible for compensation. Interdisciplinary Studies also does not compensate concentration heads. Serving as a concentration head is usually handled as a service commitment to the home unit that supports the concentration.

No matter the arrangement, the Interdisciplinary Studies program is very grateful for faculty support of our students!
